Event Overview & The Timex Sponsorship

ING-logo1

The premier event of New York Road Runners, the ING New York City Marathon is one of the world’s great road races, drawing nearly 105,000 applicants. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $600,000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel in the media capital of the world before two million cheering spectators and more than 300 million worldwide television viewers. As any one of the nearly 788,000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the great thrills of a lifetime. All race timing will be provided by Timex, official Timing Sponsor of the ING NYC Marathon. Look for a Timex clock on the lead vehicles, at key splits, and of course the finish line—and look for the new Timex Ironman Sleek™ 150-Lap with TapScreen™ Technology on the wrists of all the official pace team members.

ING Direct Pace Team… now Powered by Timex TapScreen™ Technology!

Pace Team Bib

How does the official pace team of the New York City Marathon stay on pace?

They will be relying on the new Timex Ironman Sleek 150-lap with TapScreen Technology . That means that every time they go past a mile marker and take a split by tapping their watch screen, they will get an immediate audible alert letting them know if they’re going too slow, too fast, or if they’re on pace. This will allow the pacers to focus on running, and leading thousands of others to their targeted finish time—while Timex keeps track of the pace.
